Old Diner, Renewed Panache on Sip
Winter doldrums, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), Cold Weather Blues. Whatever you call it, it can hit hard in January and the ensuing winter months. Might we suggest taking a break at VIP Diner on Sip Ave.? Yes it has been there forever and did not always elicit the best reviews, to put it politely. But with the new ownership in place a couple of years now (and with no offense meant to the old), there is a downright sunny new spin on this spacious old-school JC spot.
Sit in the booth in the back dining room and watch the world go by on busy Sip Ave. Here, a 6.25 breakfast special can still be had. We like to grab two eggs, toast and homefries with a piping hot mug of very decent diner coffee. It is impossible to not get in an interesting chat with the very nice and welcoming staff here. Beyond breakfast, the VIP Diner is open for lunch and dinner with yes a very traditional diner menu. We like to keep our choices here very simple while we soak in the truly relaxing atmosphere.
And wait, there is more! The VIP is now hosting “Awaken” open mic nights on select Saturday nights. Our waiter encouraged us to come in and perform or enjoy spoken word, karaoke and the like. It is BYOB so feel free to get your drink on as well. And there is plenty of parking to boot. So when life gets too busy, too much, too expensive, remember this nice old-school diner with a really sweet vibe.
