An Irish-Mexican Melting Pot in JC
An Irish-Mexican fusion bar/cantina has been added to the Jersey City bar scene and it is as delightful as you would expect. San Patricios was conceived and is run by the team behind the Dead Rabbitt, the acclaimed Irish gastropub and cocktail bar in NYC’s Financial District. Both of these establishments reference Irish history and San Patricios fuses an element of Mexico history and culture as well.
The Dead Rabbitt refers to the Irish street gang of the mid-1800s who fought to protect their impoverished NYC slum. San Patricios refers to the battalion of immigrants – many of them Irish – who defected from the U.S. army and came to the aid of Mexico in the Mexican-American War during the same era. We learned that the management and bar staff at the Dead Rabbitt became enamored with Mexican culture and the work ethos through their kitchen staff. Once the kitchen staff invited them to their family meal, a mutual love and respect and great idea was born.
The spacious bar has Guiness on draft, plenty of rare Mexican agave spirits, and lots of fun hybrid cocktails and eats like whiskey-infused Margaritas and corned beef tacos. There is all sorts of great events to come like traditional Irish music sessions, Dios De Muertos and San Patrick’s Day celebrations and the like. A very cool business to add to the most diverse city in the U.S.
