A New Chapter for a JC Landmark
After 85 years of service, it was heartbreaking for many to say goodbye to the iconic Miss America Diner. Thankfully, the story didn't end there. The also-beloved Salumeria Ercolano – an Italian deli located on Broadway - made a move and relocated to the historic diner space at 322 West Side Avenue.
The move happened last March and so far, the transition has created a match made in culinary heaven. While the classic chrome exterior remains a cherished landmark, the interior now hums with the energy of the old Ercolano’s. Another nice touch: owner Natale Rescigno has preserved the "Miss America" name in the new branding. Salumeria Ercolano at Miss America is a loverly tribute to the original proprietors. If this is your first visit to either iteration of Ercolano’s, we recommend your first order to be one of their legendary sandwiches. The mozzarella is prepared fresh daily, while the Jersey City street-named heroes are piled high on some of the best Italian bread you can find. Our fave is The Broadway: capicola, prosciutto, soppressata, provolone, and roasted red peppers. Beyond sandwiches, their daily hot specials like Chicken Parmigiana and Eggplant Rollatini have steady followings for a reason. As for dessert, you may want to leave room for their crisp, fresh-filled cannolis.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of the old diner or a newcomer seeking the best deli in Ward C, Salumeria Ercolana at Miss America is the spot to check out.
