BRBQ Lands in Journal Square With Korean-American Flare

There’s a new restaurant lighting up Journal Square — and it’s bringing the heat. BRBQ, the latest project from the team behind DOMODOMO and ONDO, has officially opened its doors at 532 Summit Avenue, right across from the Journal Square PATH station.

If the names DOMODOMO and ONDO sound familiar, it’s because co-owners Jae Park and Brian Kim are already well-loved in Jersey City for their sushi and modern Korean spots. Now, they’re adding a third concept to their growing local lineup — this time with a bold, smoky twist.

So, what is BRBQ all about? Think wood-fired cooking meets Korean-American comfort food, all served in a laid-back, stylish setting. Expect dishes like grilled Korean short ribs, mochi pancakes, and other flavor-packed creations with an Asian-American spin. There’s lunch, dinner, and outdoor seating when the weather cooperates.

Inside, the vibe leans casual-cool: cozy wood touches, neon-inspired art, and a space that feels more like a neighborhood hangout than a traditional restaurant. It's got that café energy — upbeat but relaxed. In a press statement, Chef Brian Kim shared his excitement about the new location, saying, “We’re thrilled to bring BRBQ to Journal Square and to partner with Urby to further expand our brand in Jersey City.” The team is eager to connect with the local community and bring something new to the area’s growing food scene.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of their other restaurants or just hungry for something different, BRBQ is worth checking out — especially if you're into bold flavors and good vibes.
