The Sicilian Guy is At Home in Jersey City
We have been patiently waiting for The Sicilian Guy to open their brick-and-mortar store in Jersey City and now that it here, rest assured it does not disappoint. Every day (except Sunday) is a chance to eat classic Sicilian dishes cooked patiently and expertly. The Kick Ass Soup, for one. It takes four and a half hours to make this (roasted and organic) chicken soup with plenty of fresh vegetables and herbs and a loaf of artisanal bread on the side.
Many ingredients are imported from Sicily, like the shells for the scrumptious cannoli. The handmade focaccia comes out of the oven bursting with fluffiness and flavor, enhanced with an extra drizzle of EVOO before you bring it home. Then the sandwiches – walk in and feast your eyes on the chicken cutlet, meatball and the parm sandwiches (chicken or parm), the pasta platters and the prosciutto bread. Daily specials include lasagna and vegetable sides like broccoli rabe and sauteed string beans.
If you remember The Sicilian Guy’s food truck by Exchange Place, then surely you remember the legendary stuffed peppers. So, when you go into The Sicilian Guy, introduce yourself to the wonderful owner Riccardo. He will grab your number and text you when they come out, because they sell out that fast. He was born in Palermo and raised in Bayonne where he learned the ropes at the family pizzeria before earning a culinary degree and working all sorts of jobs in the NYC restaurant scene. This business is such a delicious gem, trust us.
The Sicilian Guy is open Monday through Saturday from 1lam to 8pm.
