Gaia and Loki’s Superior Vegan Eats

We were recently introduced to the term Veganuary – a pretty culinary challenge or take on the ubiquitous Dry January trend. While we did not ascribe to Veganuary month as an all-or-nothing inititiave, we always love exploring the many great vegan eateries in Jersey City. We know we are late to this one (we are spoilt for choice here!) but we absolutely love Gaia and Loki. Located downtown in the Harsimus Cove neighborhood, Gaia and Loki has a beautiful dining room serving pastas, salads, soups and handhelds along with an extensive Brunch menu on the weekends.

Gaia and Loki describes itself as an upscale vegan eatery and it certainly is, based on the quality of the international-leaning menu and the lovely service and space. At the same time, many of their menu items share some of the wonderful trappings of “traditional” comfort food, just minus the animal meat and byproducts. As an example, the burgers. We love the crispy, Korean-fried ‘Shroom Burger as well as the Bacon Onion Ring Burger – plant based meat topped with vegan cheddar and bacon, dill pickle and served with homemade onion rings with BBQ Sauce. Comfort food personified, in our opinion. We also love the Primavera Pasta, loaded with many vegetables and available with a spicy kick too. Another pasta we love is the simply perfect Broccoli and Garlic Linguini. There is so much more to the menu (their Mushroom Gyro is one of their biggest hits) and the Brunch menu is full of delicious fruity cobblers, pancakes and waffles.

Gaia and Loki is open Wednesday – Friday from 12pm – 10pm and on Saturdays from 11am – 10pm and Sundays from 11am – 7pm. Weekend brunch is served both Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 4pm.
